Hello and thanks for visiting us here at Code5!

A code 5 bird is one that has been seen less than 5 times on the continent. Why did we choose that as a name? When we started up Code5Design the goal was to celebrate rare, regional, and under-appreciated wildlife. Like most of the folks who will end up on this page, all of us working at Code5 treasure our chances to get outside and go find birds, bugs, whales, herps, plants and adventures. One thing became clear- if we wanted a T-shirt to commemorate something rare or regional, we were going to have to make it ourselves. As we grow, we are trying to make sure that you have appropriate ‘trophies’ of your 300th species of bird, or your first sighting of a Sperm Whale. If you have an idea for a design that we don’t currently offer, please get in touch!

The conservation of public and private lands as habitat is important, and goodwill is a precious commodity. Part of the mission has always been to give back to the birds, habitat, and community, which is a tall order for an internet T-shirt shop. So we’ve taken to supporting thank-you gifts to landowners and hosts. We’ve given out Ivory Gull, Black-backed Oriole, Great Grey Owl, and Fieldfare shirts designed in the shop. If we can help hosts and landowners feel a little more appreciated and a little less overwhelmed by our enthusiastic community, Code5 is happy to do it.
